finding solutions for current challenges of the EU

Love without borders - a European love story

Finn from Germany and Lou-Anne from France met through the EVE last year. Their connection quickly grew into love, brought together by shared experiences and heartfelt conversations that connected countries. Along the way, they also made new friends, showing that European exchange programs connect not just countries, but hearts.

Debate Workshop

Debate Workshop - Turning ideas into strong arguments.
Today the committees took part in an inspiring debate workshop. We gladly welcomed Dario Werner, President of the Hamburg Debating Club, who led this activity. The main goal of this was to reinforce their understanding of clear communication and well-structured arguments. Through practical exercises, the participants could practice to express their ideas with confidence while also listening carefully to different perspectives. The workshop encouraged critical thinking but also teamwork. Now all of the committees are well-prepared for their debates in the General Assembly tomorrow.

Professional input

All of the committees got the chance to listen to a presentation by Julia Jamila Werner, who is a political scientist and journalist, getting more professional input on the topics that they are working on.
She shared important insights about why knowledge is essential in today‘s complicated world. The students learned that Europe was built on cooperation and rules after the complex history. The European idea focuses on peace and unity. Open borders, exchange programs and cultural diversity show how successful this is.
Ms. Werner was also talking about resilience: Europe‘s ability to stay strong and adapt to difficulties. She emphasized that the EU is an ongoing and developing project.
Through this input, the students were encouraged to reflect on their own role in shaping Europe‘s future. The future of the European Union is not only shaped by political institutions, but also in classrooms and youth projects such as our EVE project.

“You are able to become a European citizen not just Italian." (Elisa, Italy)

General Assembly Preparation

This evening, just before the General Assembly began, the last input was given by Elisa one of the presidents. In her short but informative speech, she briefly summarized what is expected of the committees in tomorrow‘s General Assembly. They received a clear explanation of how a debate works step by step. The president outlined the different phases, from opening the debate to voting on the resolutions. This overview helped everyone feel more prepared for and understand the procedures of the General Assembly.

Tyra and Sanna are two Swedish students, participating in the ECON and ITRE committees. Sanna was already here last year and enjoyed it so much that she decided to return. Tyra, on the other hand, has attended sessions of the European Youth Parliament in Sweden twice and didn’t want to miss another opportunity to take part in such an event.
Additionally, it was a good chance for them to expand their knowledge of economics and improve their language skills.

The Italian exchange student Elisa has already been at our school for several weeks and is now taking part in the EVE project. She explained that her sister had positive experiences at our school, which motivated her to spend some time at Weber-School, too. Elisa told us about the differences in the school system she noticed: here in Germany, the lessons are often more focused on teamwork. This stay was also a perfect opportunity for her to practice her German.
