Preparations +

       Official opening        ceremony

Today was the official start of committee work and debate in the in the European Parliament. Even though it was only the welcoming day, the atmosphere was already full of excitement. At the beginning, we were warmly welcomed by Elina, Oliver, and Tom, the presidents of this session. After that, the different committees were introduced by their chairpersons. The Chairs are former students who have already taken part in the EVE before. Because of their experience, they know exactly how everything works and will guide us through the next days. It was interesting to see who is leading each committee and to get a first impression of what we will be working on. This year there is also something new: For the first time, teams can win a trophy at the end of the EVE. To achieve this, they have to collect points during the event by completing different challenges. This creates extra motivation and a bit of friendly competition between the teams. Right after the introductions, we started with the first challenge: a big “rock, paper, scissors” competition. Everyone played against each other in different rounds until only one person was left. The winner earned important points for their team. Even though it was a simple game, it quickly became very competitive and fun. At the end, the committees came together for the first time. We introduced ourselves, got to know each other better, and talked about some first ideas and basic information about our topics. It was a great way to start the project and prepare for the upcoming days.

The hospitality team had to pick up the donated food, which was sponsored by our supporters. That included a lot of yoghurt — so be prepared for that! 😉 On Thursday, they went grocery shopping. They needed five shopping carts in total for all the food. The carts were filled to the maximum to make sure that all 150 people are well cared for. There was so much food that they even had to open an extra checkout for our team. In addition to that, they need to plan the social activities and, of course, prepare the different meals.

Final Preparations

The final preparations for the EVE project are in full swing! Yesterday, the team of the chair persons took some time to go through the programme again in more detail, clarifying their responsibilities and learning how they can build a strong team spirit. The Media Team on the other hand prepared and refreshed the Instagram account and the project's blog to keep everyone updated. This morning the art class made the name tags and got the auditorium ready for the official welcome ceremony this afternoon.
